NASHIK: Cadets and personnel at the Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA) are an elated lot. They are, after all, getting a state-of-the-art gym, facilities for rappelling and the e-MPA to provide them online courses.
On Wednesday, additional director general of police (training and special forces) K Venkatesham inaugurated the additional facilities at the MPA, which can be used by cadets and the personnel after the academy was declared autonomous.
Venkatesham, while on his visit to the city, said that the added facilities had been provisioned to improve the physical fitness of the candidates for the posts of sub-inspector and deputy superintendent of police, who are trained at the MPA.
The academy had introduced online courses related to investigations, conviction, traffic rules, law and other issues related to the traffic and city police in June this year. "The studio would help generate these courses and also provide training on personnels' mobile devices too," the additional director general of police said.
The courses created in the studio aim to reach maximum number of police officials to update them on field jobs and refresh their skills.
The courses would be made mandatory for all officials to update their knowledge, linked to their appraisals, increments and promotions. So far, a database of about 21, 000 officials has been gathered and would be integrated with the system. User names and passwords would be provided to these officials to pursue various courses from their respective departments.
"The rappelling and wall climbing facility has been created at an expense of Rs 60 lakh through funds provided by the district collectorate last year," another official said.
The official further said that a fitness centre has also been opened to address the fitness issue among the cadets in the MPA premises. "The centre has been created with the funds released from the welfare department of the state government," he said, adding that it could also be used by the family members of the officials and cadets at the MPA.
